FAQ: MAYU |Make Your Water Better With a Natural Swirling Motion
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

How does it work?

MAYU aerates the water, causing the dissolved gases or volatile compounds to release from the water as well as improving taste and odor.

The swirling motion is induced by a motionless motor that stirs a magnetic swirler coated by medical-grade platinum cured silicone.

Aeration Scietific source

Water aeration has been long used in water treatment for the removal of odor and taste-causing compounds, the oxidation of iron and manganese, as well as corrosion control and aesthetics. Since the mid-1970s, however, the process has been used to remove carcinogenic and hazardous chemicals from water. These chemicals include volatile organics such as trihalomethanes, radon, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, chloroform, and toluene.

As a result, water aeration may be the single most important water treatment process used in the 21st century.

Do you have water quality tests from an external certified laboratory?

We are in contact with two certified labs and we are waiting for their results. We’ve been running comparative tests in our laboratory and receiving results that support the literature on aeration releasing VOCs.

We should have done the external tests before the campaign, but we didn’t. A lesson learned.

Does MAYU Stream remove bacteria and from the water?

Our health claims aren’t meant to trick anyone, we truly believe cleaner water is better for our health, and aeration is a proven method to accelerate evaporation of some toxic volatile compounds.

MAYU stream alone, won’t clean bacteria and other pathogens out of the water. But in Municipal Water chlorine is added to the water in order to kill pathogens.

The next recommended move will be to reduce the chlorine in your water before you drink it, as chlorine is not so good for you. (This would be similar to washing your fruits and vegetables before eating them). There are many ways to get rid of the chlorine. Swirling the water is a simple and elegant way to accelerate its evaporation.

If the device has batteries, can I take it out when I go camping?

We wouldn’t recommend that.
But on a dinner table, it will take ordinary water, and turn it into something extraordinary.

The idea behind adding batteries to the device was to bring the beauty of flowing water back home, to the center of the table. Hoping more people will look at their water again and see it in a different way.

How long should I let my water stir?

MAYU recommends 7-15 minutes for optimal results.

Last updated: December 03, 2018 05:13

What size is the vessel?

The vessel is 1.5 Liters or 50.7oz.

Last updated: December 03, 2018 05:13

How long will the water stay fresh/aerated?

Up to 48 hours water quality stays wonderful. MAYU recommends storing aerated water in glass containers.

Last updated: December 03, 2018 05:13

What is the power source?

Charging and operating is through a USB cable and the base itself has a built-in battery for up to 2 hours of wireless swirling.

Is the swirl silent?

We can say (proudly) yes, after putting a great amount of thought and research into the design so that the swirl would not make noise.

We made a video to show you the sound (or lack thereof) :)

How was the design made to be ergonomic?

Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them.

Great thought was put into the design of the vortex vessel, not only for its beauty, but also in its size, weight and shape so that it’s easy to hold & pour with one hand. We worked with an expert in glass drinkware (cups, carafes) to design a bottle neck that is easily grasped and poured without slipping. The glass neck was widened a bit at the top so that it won’t slip from your grip. We also chose 1.5 liter to be the suggested maximum amount of liquid for ease of use.

Would shaking water in a water bottle provide the same benefits as listed?

Actually yes, but only partially.

According to the World Health Organization TECHNICAL NOTES ON DRINKING-WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE IN EMERGENCIES - Emergency treatment of drinking-water at the point of use (2011) -

“Aeration brings water into close contact with air which increases the oxygen content of the water. This will: remove volatile substances such as hydrogen sulfide and methane which affect taste and odor; reduce the carbon dioxide content of the water; and oxidize dissolved minerals such as iron and manganese so that they can be removed by sedimentation and filtration. Water can be aerated in a number of ways. One simple method for householders is to rapidly shake a container part-full of water for about five minutes (Figure 5.1), leave it standing the water for a further 30 minutes to allow any suspended particles to settle.”

Is MAYU EU friendly?

Yes, MAYU Stream comes with electrical adapters for the EU so the product will work in Europe, but we don’t have a logistics center in the EU yet.

All our products will meet EU and US regulatory standards.

Production will take place in China and Israel, final production will be shipped from Israel according to our Supply Chain at the moment, although we hope to open distribution centers in the countries with the highest volume of orders.

Last updated: December 10, 2018 07:52

What about VAT & taxes?

Customers will take care of their tax according to each country law. Having said that, we are trying to bring our backers a better solution by opening distribution centers in places of high volume sales. We’re looking into it and hope we will be able to offer this solution.

What's the difference between bamboo and stainless steel?

Bamboo and Stainless Steel are not the base color options.

We are offering Bamboo and Stainless steel as the cap options, the lids that come with the vortex vessel.

The caps are important for storing the water after swirling, so that the water stays closed and clear from toxins that float around in the air.

When swirling it is important to leave the bottle open, caps off, so that oxygenation can occur and toxins can leave the water, evaporating into the atmosphere.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
